The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has established a disciplinary panel to investigate allegations of assault against two of its operatives.

The operatives were reportedly involved in a physical assault with a female staff member during a raid at a Lagos hotel on Thursday, June 27.

The EFCC’s spokesperson, Mr. Dele Oyewale, announced in a statement on Monday in Abuja that the two operatives accused of misconduct will face the disciplinary panel on Monday.

He said: “The errant officers are expected to appear before the panel today, Monday.”

A viral video showed the officers involved in a dawn raid on Thursday violently assaulting a hotel staff member, sparking widespread outrage and leading to the EFCC’s swift action to investigate and discipline the errant operatives.

According to Oyewale, the Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has established a disciplinary team to investigate the misconduct of two EFCC officers accused of physically assaulting a female employee of the Regional Hotel in Ojo, Lagos.

He said: “Olukoyede ordered the arrest of the two officers and has directed them to appear before a joint disciplinary team comprising the Appointment, Promotion, and Disciplinary Committee, APDC, and the Department of Ethics and Integrity.

“They are billed to appear before the team on Monday, July 1, at the Corporate Headquarters of the Commission, Abuja.

“The team would look into the case of the officers and recommend appropriate disciplinary measures to be taken against them.”

In order to hold the officers involved in the unprofessional conduct accountable for their actions, the EFCC boss vowed to conduct a thorough and exhaustive investigation, leaving no stone unturned.
