Nigerian singer David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has opted to settle the legal dispute with former Nigerian Football Federation President (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, by agreeing to pay him N30 million.
A Delta State High Court in Effurun rejected Davido’s request for a stay of proceedings in the N2 billion lawsuit Amaju filed against him, leading to the decision.
During the court proceedings, Davido’s legal representative initially cited a pending appeal and filed a motion for a stay of proceedings, only to later withdraw the motion, asserting that the Court of Appeal now had jurisdiction over the case.
Amaju’s counsel did not contest the withdrawal, leading to the court granting it.
Despite this, the court upheld the plaintiff’s argument, ruling that the High Court would continue proceedings until a specific order from the Court of Appeal dictated otherwise.
In a recent update to the case, Per Second News learnt that Davido has opted to settle the breach of contract suit outside of court, agreeing to pay N30 million to Amaju as a partial contribution towards the claimant’s outstanding legal fees within seven days of finalizing the settlement terms.
This legal clash stemmed from Amaju’s public criticism of Davido last year for allegedly breaching a contract, where Davido failed to fulfil an event appearance despite receiving payment and a booked private jet for his crew.
Amaju compared Davido unfavorably to his rival Burna Boy, prompting a response from Davido defending his achievements and status in the industry.
