The organized labour under the aegis of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has received a warning from President Bola Tinubu to uphold peace for the benefit of the nation and not to fight his nine-month-old administration.
Inaugurating the Lagos Red Line rail project on Thursday, took a hard line against the union, saying even with its widely recognised freedom and rights, the labour union cannot stand up to an administration that has only been in office for nine months.
Persecondnews recalls that the NLC and its affiliates on February 27 staged protests against the current high cost of living, inflation, insecurity, and hardship in the country.
The NLC called off the two-day nationwide protest after the first day, citing the overwhelming success of the street action.
The demonstrators made their way to the National Assembly, where NLC President Joe Ajaero, delivered a letter containing demands to President Bola Tinubu through the assembly’s leadership.
Tinubu said:“If you want to participate in the electoral process, meet us in 2027. If not, maintain peace. You are not the only voice of Nigeria.
“There is a very bright light at the end of the tunnel. Nigeria will be out of the economic problem; we just need to persevere and work hard”.
Tinubu recalled that the Red Line was conceived about 25 years ago when he was governor of the state.
The President called for collaboration between the Federal Ministry of Transportation and the sub nationals (states) to develop rail infrastructure in the country.
