The Minister of Sports, Sen. John Enoh has congratulated the 11-time African champions, the Super Falcons, for securing the 2024 WAFCON ticket, after defeating Cape Verde 7-1 on goals aggregate.

Nigeria had to fight back from a goal down in the second leg of the encounter, after Ivania Moreira put the Cape Verdeans ahead in the eight minutes.

The Justine Madugu team failed to convert numerous chances to goal in the first half until Esther Okoronkwo turned the hit up on the host in the second half with a solo effort that leveled things up 1-1 on the hour mark.

Inform Atletico de Madrid femenino star, Rasheedat Ajibade, completed the come back deep into stoppage time.

The Super Falcons win the tie by 7-1 on aggregate, the Falcons had earlier humbled the island country in the central Atlantic Ocean, 5-0 in Abuja on Friday.

The Minister said: “The qualification of our Super Falcons for the African Women’s Cup of Nations is a testament to the dedication and talent of our exceptional players. Their outstanding performance reflects Nigeria’s rich sporting heritage and unwavering commitment to excellence.

“Through their hard work and commitment, the Super Falcons have not only secured a place in this prestigious tournament but have also inspired a new generation of aspiring female footballers.

“Their success resonates beyond the field, serving as a beacon of hope and empowerment for young women in our country.”
