Labour suspends mass action, planned strike over FG’s “inaction” on petrol subsidy agreement

The organized labour in the country has suspended its proposed strike about 24 hours after embarking on nationwide protests over the removal of petrol subsidy, the President of Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Festus Osifo, has disclosed.

Osifo gave an indication to this effect while featuring on Arise News programme, “The Morning Show”, on Thursday monitored by Persecondnews.

According to Osifo, the labour leaders at their meeting with President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday extracted “some commitments” from him on some of the issues raised for “immediate implementation”.

He hinged the suspension of the strike and mass action on the president’s latest commitment over the post-subsidy issues raised.

Persecondnews recalls that the NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, had described the outcome of labour’s meeting with government officials on Tuesday as “not yielding positive changes or concessions that would alter their course of action to proceed on yesterday’s protest.

Last night, Ajaero after a meeting with Tinubu said the president has “made some commitments” to labour.

“We met with the President). The issues are the same issues that led to the protest today.

“He has expressed his position, made some commitments which are taken side by side with what the National Assembly, the Senate said.

“We are taking it back to the office with our colleagues to review it and release a document on our next line of action,” the NLC leader said, describing their discussion as fruitful and productive.
