“Since the elections are over, it is time to govern and I urge Nigerians to encourage President Tinubu, he is alert with a clear direction he wants to take the country”

Ex-Ekiti Gov. Ayo Fayose has scored President Bola Tinubu high on his 38 days in office, urging Nigerians to continue to encourage him in the onerous task of restoring the country.

“I rate his performance since coming into office high and he should be encouraged; he cannot do it alone,” he told State House correspondents after meeting with the president behind closed doors.

Fayose of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) said since the elections are over, it is time to govern and urged Nigerians to rally round President Tinubu whom he described as alert with a clear direction he wants to take the country.

“I will be the first to blast the president if he goes back on his campaign promises.

“I will actively monitor the government’s activities and provide constructive criticisms when necessary,” Persecondnews quotes the former governor as saying.

Fayose, who said he did not expect Tinubu to fail, added: “If there is any delay, it will not be a deliberate act on the part of the president.”

Answering reporters’ questions on whether his name is on the ministerial list of Tinubu, he dismissed the suggestion, saying he is not after appointment.

“I don’t have to be appointed into an office to contribute to the success of the administration.”

On his possible defection to APC, Fayose said: “Although myself and some opposition party leaders like Oyo State Gov. Seyi Makinde and former Rivers Gov. Nyesom Wike are working with Tinubu, I can never join the ruling APC.

“I remain a member of the main opposition, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).”

He reaffirmed his commitment to the PDP and advised politicians across the parties to move on with the development of the country as the elections are over.
