Just in: DSS confirms arrest of ex-CBN  Gov. Emefiele

Suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele has been arrested and is in the custody of the Department of State Service (DSS), its spokesman has said.
Dr Peter Afunanya confirmed Emefiele’s arrest on Saturday in a terse statement, a copy of which was obtained by Persecondnews in Abuja.
The DSS had earlier denied arresting or holding Emefiele in a statement.
The statement said: “The Department of State Services (DSS) hereby confirms that Mr Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is now in its custody for some investigative reasons.

“The public, particularly the Media, is enjoined to apply utmost caution in the reportage and narratives concerning this.”
Persecondnews had reported that President Bola Tinubu had suspended Emefiele on Friday, a decision that generated mixed reactions across the country.
A statement from the office of the Secretary to the Federal Government instructed Emefiele to immediately hand over to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who would serve as the Acting Central Bank Governor while investigations about his office and the reforms he implemented.
Emefiele, CFR,  is a Nigerian politician, economist and banker and was appointed the governor of the CBN on  June 4, 2014.
Immediate past President, Muhammadu Buhari, on May 9, 2019, renewed his appointment for a second term.
