Breaking: INEC presents Certificate of Return to Tinubu, Shettima

598

Few hours after he was declared President-elect, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday presented a Certificate of Return to the All Progressives Congress candidate in the February 25 poll, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

The INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, presented the certificate at a ceremony at 3.00pm at the National Collation Centre in Abuja.

Persecondnews reported that Yakubu had declared Tinubu winner of the election at 4.10pm on Wednesday.

Tinubu secured 8,794,726 million votes to defeat PDP’s Atiku Abubakar, who came second with 6,984,520 votes while Peter Obi of the Labour Party, who finished third got 6,101,533 votes.

Both the LP and PDP have rejected the outcome of the polls, criticizing INEC’s poor handling of the election and for lacking transparency.

They also accused the APC of rigging the polls and called for the cancellation of the election and the resignation of Yakubu.
