Within the next one week, Nigerians will heave a sigh of relief on the artificial petrol scarcity across the country, the Group Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited, Malam Mele Kyari, has assured.

According to him, the lingering scarcity and high cost will ease off next week.

“Now within the next one week, I’m not saying that you are going to have zero queues within the next one week, No, because a number of things are out of our control, and of course, the market forces will determine some of these issues.

“But I believe that we are going to see substantial and relative ease compared to today in the next one week,” Kyari said

Kyari said this in a video clip aired on Channels TV on Tuesday evening.

He, however, said he could not assure that the queues at the fuel stations would disappear, but added that there would be significant improvement in the next one week.

“I apologize for the situation on behalf of all of us in the oil and gas industry,” the GCEO of NNPCL said.

Persecondnews had reported that the new naira notes scarcity has affected drastically petrol purchases as filling stations have continued to reject the use of POS or transfer platform to pay for petrol.

Protests have broken out in various states and cities with Nigerians bemoaning the impact on their businesses and daily living.

President Muhammadu Buhari had on February 3 urged Nigerians to give him seven days to resolve the currency crisis.
