The Police appear to have bungled the investigation into the killing and roasting of a staff of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Kehinde Fatinoye and his wife in the wee-hours of new year day in Abeokuta, Ogun capital as the only suspect arrested last week has disappeared into the thin air.
Lekan Adekanbi has escaped from police custody in Ibara Divisional Police headquarters in Abeokuta.
After the killing of Fatinoye, his wife and their only son, the police said they had arrested Adekanbi as the prime suspect in the case.
Persecondnews gathered that Adekanbi was the driver of the late CBN staff until the day he was assassinated.
The Police had nabbed Adekanbi and held him in custody to aid their investigation.
On the pretext of being feverish, two policemen from the station had on January 3 taken the suspect to a nearby hospital.
“At the hospital, Adekanbi, who was not handcuffed, said he wanted to pee and thereafter escaped from the facility,” a source said.
According to sources, the suspect had taken to his heels when he discovered that the domestic staff of the Fatinoyes, who was dumped into the river by the assassins alongside their son, has been rescued alive.
“This has made him to become restless.”
Meanwhile, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Bernard Ediagbonya, has been removed over alleged negligence.
The DPO was removed without any posting as the command directed the most senior officer in the division to take over.
Ediagbonya has been directed to report at the Police headquarters, Eleweran, with immediate effect while the policemen who allegedly aided the suspect’s escape have been arrested and are undergoing orderly room trial.
