Prowling gunmen attack Abuja prison hours after Pres. Buhari’s convoy was ambushed, shot

Few hours after President Muhammadu Buhari’s convoy was attacked in his home state, Kastina, gunmen have launched a violent attack on the Nigerian Correctional Centre (prison) in Kuje, Abuja with a hail of gunshots and explosives.

The attack was unleashed on the Medium Security Custodial Centre at 10.00 pm on Tuesday.

Panic-stricken residents scarpered to safety as bullets were hailing down in the area.

According to some residents, the attack shook the whole area like terrorists offensive.

The roads leading to Kuje were immediately deserted while the shootings lasted, Persecondnews learnt.

Confirming the incident on Wednesday morning, the national spokesman for the Correctional Service, Mr. Abubakar Umar, said: “The armed squad of the NCoS and other security agencies attached to the Custodial centre  responded.

“Calm has been restored to the facility and the situation is under control. Details will be made available soon.”
