A civil society group, the Human Righters Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), has called on the Department of State Services (DSS) to arrest the Chief Imam of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Sheikh Abubakar Jibril, for allegedly inciting Muslims against the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Matthew Hassan Kukah.
The Abuja-based human rights body said Jibril was captured in a video that has gone viral, allegedly telling his many Muslim followers to get the home address of Kukah and possibly attack the bishop
if he is the person that sent Deborah Samue Yakubu to the Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto where she allegedly blasphemed the prophet of Islam.
National Coordinator of HURIWA, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, who spoke in Abuja, accused some governors in Northern Nigeria of supporting the brutal killing of Deborah Yakubu.
Perseconnews earlier report that rioters had on Thursday stoned and burnt to death a 200-level Home Economics student of the Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto, Deborah Yakubu, for alleged blasphemy of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
Two Suspects were thereafter arrested by security agents, a development that provoked street protest by hoodlums in Sokoto on Saturday where they allegedly vandalised two parishes presided over by Bishop Kukah
In his reaction, the National Coordinator of HURIWA urged the Northern Governors to speak out against the dastardly act and demonstrate sincere commitment to protect non Muslims and their rights to worship and belong to any religious group of their choice.
