President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday joined other Muslim faithful at Mambilla Barracks, Abuja to observe the Eid-el-Fitri prayers with a call to Nigerians to pray to Almighty Allah for protection and security.

Speaking with State House correspondents after the prayers, Buhari said the occasion called for sober reflections and prayers.

“My administration will continue to make the environment secure especially now that the farmers are now going to their farms because of the raining season,” he said.

This year’s celebration was observed different in the Presidential Villa compared to that of 2020 and 2021 which were celebrated low key because of Covid-19 pandemic.

In a separate message to residents of the Federal Capital Territory, the FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello urged the residents of the territory, especially the Muslims to put into use the lessons of the just concluded Ramadan.

Bello gave the advice while addressing newsmen shortly after observing the Eid prayer and the National Eid Ground, on Monday in Abuja.

The minister emphasized the need for Muslims and all Nigerians to continue to pray for the unity, security and economic prosperity of the country.

“First and foremost, we thank Allah, the Most High for having made it possible for us to come out today to celebrate the Eid-el-fitr.

“As you can see for many years, I think the kind of gathering we saw today has been unprecedented and this is as a mark of appreciation and thanks to God Almighty.

“Because two years ago we couldn’t come out for Eid. As a matter of fact even last year the number of people that came out were really very minimal because of COVID-19,” Persecondnews quotes Bello as saying.
