The House of Representatives on Thursday called for the immediate evacuation of Nigerians in Ukraine. The lawmakers who expressed concern that many Nigerian students in Ukraine could be caught up in the crossfire, mandated the House Committee on Foreign Affairs to liaise with the Foreign Affairs Ministry for their evacuation.
The call is coming after Russian President, Vladimir Putin, who had earlier massed between 150,000 and 200,000 troops along the borders of Ukraine, announced a military operation in Ukraine in the early hours of Thursday.

Shortly after the announcement, explosions were heard in Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, and several other cities.
The motion was moved by Hon. Ahmed Munir (APC, Kaduna), during plenary on Thursday.
However, some lawmakers fear that it may be too late as the evacuation should have been done long ago.
In his remarks, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, promised to interact with the Chairman of Air Peace, Allen Onyema, to evacuate Nigerians from Ukraine by Monday, February 28.
