The Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Mrs Olayinka Adeyemi, has recommended murder charges against Chidimma Ojukwu and Adedapo Quadri at a Lagos High Court for their alleged role in the death of the CEO of Super TV, Usifo Ataga.
The 21-year-old student of the University of Lagos was also charged with stealing alongside her elder sister, Egbuchu Chioma, 28, from whom the deceased’s iPhone 7, was said to have been recovered.
Counsel to the police, Mr Cyril Ajiofor, told a Magistrates’ court sitting in Yaba, Lagos, on Monday that the police had received legal advice from the Office of the DPP on the case.
Confirming the recommendation, Chief Magistrate Adeola Adedayo, said he has received a directive to remove himself from the case following the legal advice of the DPP on August 20, recommending the murder trial of Ojukwu and four others for Ataga’s death.
“After careful consideration of facts available in the case file, this office is of the view that a prima facie case of conspiracy to murder, murder, forgery, making of documents without authority and stealing, contrary to Sections 222, 233, 363, 379 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015, has been established against Chidinma and two others.
”Facts available also established against Chidinma, the offence of having possession of things reasonably suspected to have been stolen, contrary to Section 329, of the Criminal Law of Lagos 2015,” reads the recommendation.
Magistrate Adedayo recommended Chidinma and the two others for trial at the Lagos High Court, stating that the Magistrates’ court lacks jurisdiction over murder cases.
She ordered the further remand of Chidinma and the two others, and adjourned the case until Sept 29, 2021, to await further information from the DPP as to the status of the case at the High Court.
The Chief Magistrate, however, discharged Chidinma’s father, Ojukwu Onoh, and four others who had initially been arraigned for alleged obstruction of justice and failing to report a crime to the law enforcement agencies.
Persecondnews recalls that Miss Ojukwu was arrested by the police on June 23, 2021, over the alleged killing of Usifo at a short-let apartment in Lekki, Lagos.
The media mogul was found in a pool of his blood with multiple stab wounds on his body in the apartment.
