…case adjourned until Sept. 5, 2021 for DPP’s advice
About 47 days after her arrest and detention by police, Chidinma Ojukwu, prime suspect in the murder of CEO of Super TV, Usifo Ataga, was on Monday hauled up before a Yaba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos and summarily in prison until September 5, 2021.
Also remanded is Ojukwu’s co-defendant, Adedapo Quadri, Persecondnews reports.
Ojukwu, a 21-year-old Mass Communication student of the University of Lagos, was apprehended by the police on June 23, 2021 following the gruesome murder after she and her heartthrob, Ataga, have had “real fun” at a tryst in Lekki area of Lagos.
Ojukwu had confessed to being in an erotic relationship with the 50-year-old Ataga for about four months before the unfortunate incident.
Persecondnews recalls that Ojukwu had allegedly confessed during her parade by the police on June 24 that she stabbed Ataga fatally twice following an argument.
She blamed influence of hard drugs and smoking for the murder she allegedly committed.
However in a dramatic twist on July 13, 2021, Ojukwu denied committing the crime.
She reportedly told a police media team aired by Crime Fighter TV sponsored by the police that Ataga sent her on an errand to buy somethings and that on her return she found Ataga stabbed severally with bloodstains everywhere and the room disorganized.
According to Ojukwu, some unknown assailants might have entered the apartment while she was away.
In her ruling, Chief Magistrate Adeola Adedayo ordered Ojukwu and her co-defendants to be remanded in prison following an application by the police.
She ruled: “In the absence of any opposition, the two defendants are hereby remanded for 30 days in the first instance.”
Adedayo adjourned the case until Sept. 5, 2021.
Earlier, counsel to the police, Mr Cyril Ejiofor had urged the court to remand the duo pending advice from the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
