A combined team of police and other security agents have descended on scores of people who defied police order to massed at Gani Fawehinmi Park, Ojota, for the much publicized “Yoruba Nation” mega rally.
In spite of water-tight web of security at the venue, the protesters stormed the rally, chanting solidarity songs.
Police fired hot water on the protesters to disperse them.
Police Commissioner Hakeem Odumosu, who was at the venue to monitor the situation, was addressing newsmen when the agitators started massing.
“But no sooner than Odumosu left that the Police cannon trucks started spraying hot water on the protesters.
“The security agents also fired tear-gas at the attendees including old women and youths,” a witness said.
The protesters, however, regrouped on the Ojota bridge on the Oworonsoki-Old Toll gate-Berger road.
Some of the protesters were also arrested, another witness said.
Persecondnews recalls that Odumosu and the Lagos State Goverment had warned those planning to stage a rally to mobilize and sensitize Yoruba towards self-determination and creation of “Yoruba Nation” to keep off.
On July 1, a DSS- led forces had invaded and attacked the Ibadan home of Yoruba Nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo a.k.a Sunday lgboho, destroyed properties worth millions of naira including cars in their midnight operation to “arrest” him.
At least, two people were killed by the operative while 13 people were arrested and whisked away to DSS headquarters in Abuja.
DSS, at a media briefing after the operation, said its men allegedly recovered a large cache of arms and juju from Igboho’s house which he has denied belong to him.
He said he did not have the firearms and ammunition paraded by DSS in his house.
“I do not defend myself with guns but with spiritual means (juju) …the arms were planted by the security agents,” Igboho said.
