For allegedly masterminding attacks on the Secretary to the Ogun State Government, Mr Oludare Kadiri, the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly has been impeached.
Kadiri, who represents Ijebu North II in the House, was impeached during plenary on Thursday in Abeokuta, the state capital, for what the lawmakers call “gross misconduct’’.
He was arrested and detained at the Police headquarters, Eleweran last week following a violent clash between his supporters and that of the government scribe, Mr Tokunbo Talabi in Ijebu-Igbo area during the APC membership registration and revalidation exercise.
Persecondnews recalls that a committee was set up by the lawmakers to investigate allegations of “gross misconduct’’ labeled against him.
Following the submission of the report, the House debated it and impeached the Deputy Speaker as the lawmakers voted 19 out of the 26 members.
Meanwhile, Kadiri has rejected his impeachment, saying “it is grossly unconstitutional and illegal’’.
He said: “I just received the news of my purported impeachment based on the report of an ad-hoc committee set up by the Ogun State House of Assembly. The development, to say the least, was grossly unconstitutional and illegal.
“However, I have initiated consultation with my lawyers to fashion out the best possible way to address this infraction.
“I urge my teeming supporters, constituents and members of my political party in Ijebu North II State Constituency to remain calm as the issues that threw up this unwarranted action are sorted.
“In whatever capacity I find myself now or in the future, I remain committed to the ideals of a functional legislature, tenets of democracy and good governance.’’
