For failing to submit their performance reports, the Oyo State House of Assembly, in exercise of their oversight function, suspended Chairmen of 13 local government areas and Local Council Development Areas.

The decision to suspend the caretaker chairmen was taken at the plenary session following their failure to meet the October 23, 2020 deadline.

Persecondnews recalls that the Assembly had earlier directed the council bosses to submit the report of earth moving equipment in their councils and threatened to suspend them if they failed to do so.

The affected LGAs and LCDAs include  Akinyele East LCDA, Ido Local Government, Oluyole Local Government, Ibadan North East Local government, Lagelu West LCDA, Soro LCDA, Ogbomoso Central LCDA, Ogbomoso South LCDA, Ajorosun LCDA, Ibarapa North West LCDA, Itesiwaju North Local government, Oyo East Local government, Oyo East Local government and Oyo South East LCDA.

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, had sacked elected council chairmen inherited from the tenure of his predecessor, the late Gov. Abiola Ajimobi.

The chairmen went to court to challenge their removal but they are yet to get justice.
