An unarmed policewoman was beaten hollow by a woman for her audacity to come and arrest her over a patron’s missing N150, 000 in her shop, reports Persecond News.
The 28-year-old palmwine seller, Florence Samuel, had pounced on Sergeant Caroline Olaitan and beat the living daylights out of her in Balogun Agoro area of Osogbo, Osun State capital.
Florence is facing trial at a Magistrates’ Court in Osogbo on charges of assault, breach of public peace, conspiracy and stealing.
Also arraigned with her is a customer, 59-year-old Ayodele Ogundipe, who was at the bar when the incident occurred on September 10, 2020, about 9.45am.
Florence had in a desperate move to resist arrest beaten her and tore her uniform.
The policewoman had visited her drinking bar following allegation that the sum of N150,000 belonging to a customer was missing.
The defendants denied the charges and their lawyer, Mr Najite Okobe, urged the court to grant them bail.
But Police Prosecutor Adeoye Kayode, opposed the bail application, saying it would jeopardise investigations.
In his ruling, Magistrate Adebayo Ajala, granted them bail in the sum of N400,000 each with one surety each and adjourned hearing of the case to October 13, 2020.
Earlier, Kayode had told the court that Florence physically assaulted the policewoman and tore her uniform while she was performing her lawful duty.
The offences contravened Sections 249 (d), 251, 356, 390 (9) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun State 2002.
