Senator Shehu Sani (Kaduna Central) has been let off the hook after spending four weeks in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Sani, who lost re-election in 2019 poll, was arrested and detained for alleged extortion and bribery.
He was, however, released on Thursday after he met his bail conditions.
He was arrested last December for failing to honour several invitations over allegations that he extorted $24,000 from the Chairman of ASD Motors, Alhaji Sani Dauda.
The agency alleged that Sani extorted the money from Dauda to shield him from an ongoing criminal investigation.
EFCC had raided his residence and office in Abuja while in detention.
Sani, an unrepentant critic of the federal government’s policies, also denied the charges.
PerSecondnews reports that Sani was charged with two counts bordering on advance fee fraud and bribery with the intent to bribe the EFCC chairman.
Sani was, on Monday, admitted to bail in the sum of N10 million by Justice Inyan Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja.
He was also given one surety, who must own a landed property in the Federal Capital Territory.
