Another Nigerian, the Eighth in 2019, “dies” in Maryland, U.S. jail cell

Another Nigerian has died in ICE custody in Maryland, United States, making the eighth to suffer such fate in 2019 alone.
The 56-year-old Anthony Oluseye Akinyemi was pronounced dead about 5:30 a.m. Saturday at the Worcester County Jail in the town of Snow Hill.
Akinyemi was convicted of sexually assaulting a minor in Baltimore and was taken into custody by ICE on Friday.
By Saturday Akinyemi was  “found dead” in his jail cell in Maryland,  according to officials, who announced his passing on Monday.

 

Although the cause of his death has not been ascertained, the officials said “it appears to be self-inflicted strangulation”.Akinyemi was alleged to have entered the United States on a non-immigrant visa in December 2017, but an immigration detainer had been lodged against him in July after his arrest, the officials said
