Following a tip-off, the Lagos State Government says a cub has been seized at the Victoria Island residence of an Indian.
It was learnt that the carnivorous animal is being used as security to ward off any life-threatening attacks.
“The lion being raised by an Indian was discovered by some residents, who petitioned the state government.
“The cub of about two years old is his security guard in the house,’’ a government official said on Sunday.
The animal was penned up at No. 229, Muri Okunola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Confirming the development, the Chairman, State Task Force on Environmental and Special Offences Unit, Mr Yinka Egbeyemi, said: “The cub will be “tranquilized” on Monday.
“We have placed the house under close watch since Friday and after it has been tranquilized, we will take it to a zoo.’’
He, however, did not say if the foreign national would be prosecuted.
