For physically assaulting some food sellers and spilling their cooked food, a pregnant woman has been sentenced to 60 days imprisonment in Edo State.
A Magistrates’ Court sitting in Oredo in Benin City sentenced the 34-year-old housewife, Blessing, however, with an option of fine.
She had pleaded guilty to the charge of assault and begged the court for leniency.
Chief Magistrate Esohe Ighodan gave the convict an option of N10,000 fine.
Prosecutor Sunday Lucky had earlier told the court that the offence was committed on Aug. 29, 2017 at 30 Iyoba St., Off Uwelu Road, Benin.
The convict assaulted Madam Jessica and also destroyed some bags of satchel water valued at N5, 000.
She also spilled rice and beans prepared for sale valued at N10,000 and also tore up a tarpaulin shed worth N10,000 property of another food seller, Helen.
The offence contravened Sections 355 and 451 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Edo State.
