Team Nigeria’s impressive performance at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, continues to yield results, with Patience Okon-George advancing to the women’s 400m final.
She clocked an impressive 52.92 seconds in her semifinal heat, securing a spot in the coveted final scheduled for Wednesday night at the Prince Faisal bin Fahad stadium.
Okon-George, a three-time national champion, will face stiff competition from athletes representing Morocco, Turkey, Niger, Uganda, Bahrain, and Guyana, but her credentials make her a medal contender.
Her qualification is a highlight for Team Nigeria, which has already bagged 17 medals, comprising 6 gold, 7 silver, and 4 bronze.
In other events, Pamela Amaechi won silver in the women’s discuss with a throw of 56.99 meters, narrowly missing gold to Cameroon’s Nora Atim Monie, who scored 57.04 meters. Turkey’s Ozlem Becerek took bronze with 55.56 meters.
