The All Progressives Congress (APC) has sharply criticised the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) following a call by its factional chairman, Tanimu Turaki, urging U.S. President Donald Trump and other foreign powers to intervene in Nigeria’s affairs.

The ruling party described the appeal as reckless, irresponsible, and indicative of a troubling level of desperation within the opposition.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, condemned Turaki’s remarks, insisting that asking any foreign nation to step into Nigeria’s domestic challenges undermines national sovereignty.

Morka said Turaki’s comments were a “dangerous and unpatriotic overreach,” especially coming from someone who only assumed the role of factional chairman a few days earlier.

“He looked and sounded completely overwhelmed,” Morka said, adding that Turaki appeared “confused, incoherent, and lacking the capacity or stamina to manage even his party’s internal crisis.”

According to him, Nigerians had expected Turaki to focus on unifying the PDP’s warring blocs rather than resorting to what he called a “shameless invitation for foreign invasion.”

Morka argued that Turaki’s call for international intervention which Turaki framed as an attempt to halt alleged “Christian genocide” and safeguard Nigeria’s democracy amounted to an admission that the PDP could no longer handle its internal contradictions.

“For the new factional chairman, whose party is struggling to hold itself together, to suggest that foreign powers should intervene in Nigeria is both reckless and deeply unpatriotic,” he said.

He added that even during the PDP’s 16-year rule which the APC often criticized for suppressing opposition parties no political faction ever sought the involvement of foreign governments in resolving party disputes.

The ruling party publicity secretary described Turaki’s position as “a final certification of the PDP’s demise,” arguing that the opposition had hit an unprecedented low.

Morka urged the international community to disregard Turaki’s remarks entirely.

“We trust our global partners will dismiss this disgraceful appeal as nothing more than a diversion from the PDP’s embarrassing internal disintegration.”

According to him, the PDP’s latest actions have exposed what he described as a growing level of desperation within opposition circles.

He reiterated that the government remained focused on “the demanding but necessary task of delivering progress and prosperity across all facets of national life.”
