A heated confrontation erupted in Abuja on Tuesday between Mr. Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and military personnel over a disputed parcel of land.

The incident, captured on video, shows Wike being blocked by soldiers as he attempted to access the site, leading to a tense exchanges between his security detail and the military.

“Show me the documents you have. You have no documents. We cannot continue to act with such impunity,” Wike demanded, visibly agitated.

“Where is the approval? This cannot go on. How is it that a man at his level cannot meet me, but instead sends soldiers to intimidate people? We are all from this country.”

Wike accused the soldiers of intimidation, saying “If not for the Chief of Defence Staff, who just spoke to me, you would have had to kill everyone here. I am not someone you can intimidate.”

The minister’s confrontation with the soldiers highlights the growing concern over land grabbing in Abuja.

A soldier, who appeared to be leading the group, disputed Wike’s claims, saying “On the contrary, sir. We are not intimidating anybody. The papers are complete and he said he has submitted them.”

The incident has sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians questioning the role of the military in the standoff.

The disputed land’s ownership and status remain unclear, with Wike seeking documentation from the soldiers.

The incident underscores the need for clarity and transparency in land disputes in Abuja.
