Boniface on the Ups and Downs of Super Eagles Career and Club Success

"I have been unlucky with the national team in terms of scoring goals, even though there were a couple of games I was not good"

Nigerian striker Victor Boniface has opened up about his struggles with the Super Eagles, admitting that his international performances have not met his expectations.

Boniface, currently on loan at Werder Bremen, has faced criticism for his goal drought with Nigeria, despite his impressive club form with Bayer Leverkusen.

“I have been unlucky with the national team in terms of scoring goals, even though there were a couple of games I was not good,” Boniface said in an interview with Oma Akatugba.

“My biggest dream as a football player was to represent my country and I achieved this and I am grateful for this. Because it has not worked good for me with the national team does not mean I am a bad player.”

Boniface noted that his commitment to the Super Eagles remains unwavering, despite facing challenges converting chances on the big stage.

He believed that struggles in a few games do not define his abilities as a footballer, and he remains proud to represent Nigeria.

The 24-year-old forward also addressed criticism over his social media activity, stating that he simply posts funny things and doesn’t understand why it has become a big issue.

“I just post funny things. If people make it into a big issue, that’s their choice. My posts don’t hurt anyone,” he said.

Boniface has been linked with several clubs, including AC Milan, but has expressed contentment with his decision to stay in Germany.

“When the Milan deal didn’t go through, I was just relaxing with my friends. Things like that happen in football all the time,” he said, adding that he loves Germany and feels a strong connection with the environment and supporters.

Despite facing criticism for his performances, Boniface remains resilient and focused on his career.

“I came from humble beginnings. I have faced tough injuries that could have ended my career, so every day I’m thankful to God. Being here is already a blessing,” he said.

He reiterated his commitment to staying and succeeding in the Bundesliga.
