Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will not attend the Gaza summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, due to the timing coinciding with the Jewish holiday of Simhat Torah.

The summit, co-hosted by US President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, aims to solidify the agreement to end the war in Gaza and reaffirm commitment to it.

“The prime minister thanked President Trump for the invitation but said that he would be unable to attend due to the timing coinciding with the start of the holiday,” Netanyahu’s office said in a statement.

This decision comes after Egypt’s presidency announced that Netanyahu had been invited to attend the summit following a call between Trump, al-Sisi, and the Israeli premier.

The summit will feature a notable roster of world leaders and influential figures, including Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Jordan’s King Abdullah II.

The discussions are expected to focus on the ceasefire, the next stages of Trump’s 20-point peace plan, and other regional security concerns.

The Gaza peace summit has garnered international support, with over 20 world leaders attending to discuss the situation in Gaza and potential solutions for lasting peace.
