Veteran actress Joke Silva has made an emotional revelation about her husband, Olu Jacobs, admitting that managing his illness has been one of the most difficult periods of her life.
“When you love someone deeply, you never really prepare for the day life decides to test that love in ways you never imagined,” she said, recalling the shift from years of shared laughter, glory, and unforgettable memories to a new reality where her once-strong husband now needs to be cared for.
Silva confessed that the transition has not been easy.
“There are days when my heart aches because I miss the strength he used to display effortlessly. There are nights when the silence feels heavy, and I find myself praying harder than ever before.”
Yet, through the pain, she has found strength in love. “Love makes you strong. It teaches you patience. It teaches you devotion. It teaches you that care is not a duty, it is an honour,” she noted.
For Silva, caring for Olu Jacobs is not about pity but about cherishing the man he still is her husband, her friend, and her lifelong partner.
“I bathe him with dignity. I hold his hands with tenderness. I laugh with him even when words fail. I remind him and myself that he is still Olu Jacobs, my husband, my friend, my life’s partner.”
She stressed that what keeps her going is not just the memories of his prime, but the vows they exchanged.
“It’s about honouring the vow we made, for better or worse, in health and in sickness.”
Behind every smile they share in public, Silva explained, lies a story of sacrifice, resilience, and above all, unshakable love.
“This journey is not about pity; it is about gratitude that I still have him here to hold, to love, and to cherish.”
“True love is not tested when everything is fine. True love shines brightest when life becomes difficult.”
