The Super Falcons of Nigeria have at last received their official training kits for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), following a delay of over two weeks.

According to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Monday, the kits were held up in Moroccan customs before being delivered to the team.

Persecondnews reports that during the delay, the players had been training in last year’s home kit.

However, they now have two sets of training kits, warm-up kits, training shoes, tracksuits, and casual match wear.

The Super Falcons will debut their new gear in their final training session today as they prepare to face South Africa’s Banyana Banyana in the WAFCON semi-finals tomorrow at 5.00pm.

Despite the kit delay, the team is set to take the field with their new gear, which is expected to boost their morale and confidence.

The nine-time WAFCON champions will go head-to-head with defending champions South Africa.

Historically, the Super Falcons have dominated this rivalry, winning 15 of 23 past meetings.

However, recent encounters suggest a shift, with Banyana Banyana claiming victory in two of the last three women’s AFCON matches between the sides, including a 2-1 win in the 2022 group stage.

Yet Nigeria, unbeaten in this year’s tournament, look reborn, scoring nine goals without conceding, including a 5-0 demolition of Zambia in the quarter-finals.

South Africa’s path has been grittier, edging Senegal on penalties, but their composure and tactical structure remain solid.

Stars such as Esther Okoronkwo, Chinwendu Ihezuo and Rasheedat Ajibade, have shone for Justin Madugu’s side, with stars like Asisat Oshoala still with an extra gear to go.

Similarly, South Africa’s performance has left many feeling that several of its key players, such as Jermaine Seoposenwe, Hildah Magaia, and Lebogang Ramalepe, have yet to reach their full potential.

These players, who haven’t fully impressed for Desiree Ellis’ team thus far, are all capable of turning a game around.
