781

For his alleged criminal negligence which resulted in the tragic drowning of a three-year-old boy in an uncovered septic tank,
Philip Jallo, a resident of Durumi 2, Abuja, has been arrested by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the uncovered septic tank had been a long-standing hazard to residents in the area.

Concerned neighbours had reportedly issued multiple warnings and pleas to Jallo, urging him to cover the tank, but he allegedly failed to act.

According to a statement released by the FCT Police Command spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the young child was playing within the compound when he tragically slipped and fell into the open soakaway on July 16, 2025.

The statement reads: “Sadly, the victim was pronounced dead at the hospital after being rescued from the tank.

“While the suspect is currently in custody, the FCT Police Commissioner has expressed deep sadness over the unfortunate incident and commiserates with the bereaved family.

“He also urges residents to take environmental safety seriously, while parents and guardians must also be vigilant and ensure their wards are properly monitored at all times to prevent such needless loss of life.”
