American rapper Snoop Dogg has become a co-owner of Championship side Swansea City, the Welsh club announced.

The 53-year-old music star joins former Real Madrid stalwart Luka Modric in the club’s ownership structure, following a takeover by American businessmen Brett Cravatt and Jason Cohen last November.

Snoop Dogg’s involvement with Swansea City is seen as a strategic move to boost the club’s profile and generate greater revenue.

With over 100 million social media followers, the rapper is expected to help increase the club’s global reach and attract new fans.

Swansea City’s owners believe that Snoop Dogg’s colossal global fanbase will certainly help them achieve their goals.

The rapper expressed his excitement about joining the club, saying, “My love of football is well known, but it feels special to me that I make my move into club ownership with Swansea City.

“The story of the club and the area really struck a chord with me. This is a proud, working-class city and club. An underdog that bites back, just like me.”

Snoop Dogg’s passion for football and his desire to be involved in the game align with Swansea City’s goals.

Swansea City’ owners said: “To borrow a phrase from Snoop’s back catalogue, this announcement is the next episode for Swansea City as we seek to create new opportunities to boost the club’s reach and profile.”

They expect Snoop Dogg’s involvement to support them in putting a competitive team on the field.

The club hopes to return to the Premier League for the first time since they were relegated in 2018.

Luka Modric, who joined AC Milan after leaving Real Madrid, acquired a stake in Swansea City in April.

The club’s Welsh rivals Wrexham have achieved a meteoric rise to the Championship since Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney purchased the club in 2020.
