President Bola Tinubu has taken a significant step towards transforming Nigeria’s agricultural sector with the launch of the Renewed Hope Agriculture Mechanization Programme.
The programme, which includes the distribution of 2,000 tractors and 9,072 specialized farming implements, aims to boost agricultural productivity and make farming more attractive to young Nigerians.
According to President Tinubu on Monday in conjunction with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, the programme is a fulfillment of the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign promise to prioritize agriculture and achieve food security and sovereignty.
“For the APC, this is the party fulfilling its promise,” Tinubu said. “Two years ago, we made a promise when we came in of a Renewed Hope agricultural programme.
“Then I declared an emergency in Agriculture towards achieving food security and sovereignty, which is the bedrock of any prosperous nation.”
Persecondnews reports that the “Renewed Hope Agriculture Mechanization Programme” is designed to modernize agricultural practices in Nigeria, making farming more efficient and appealing to the youth.
Tinubu noted:”These modern implements will make farming more easy and more sexy. We don’t have to use 18th century methods for a 21st century farming system.
“Nigeria must seek to achieve full Agric independence and food security. Let history record this day as the beginning of Nigeria’s Agricultural renewal.”
The program’s key components include 500 80HP 2-wheel drive tractors, 500 80HP 4-wheel drive tractors, 500 90HP 2-wheel drive tractors, and 500 90HP 4-wheel drive tractors.
