A powerful coalition, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna Gov. Nasir El-Rufai, and former Rivers Gov. Rotimi Amaechi, has applied to register a new political party – the All Democratic Alliance (ADA).

The party’s symbol—a maize (corn)—is described as representing abundance, resilience, and sustenance.

Its official documents, including the party manifesto and constitution, were submitted alongside the application.

This move signals a direct challenge to the current political landscape and President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

The decision to form a new party comes after weeks of intense, private meetings and mounting speculation about whether the opposition would revitalize an existing platform or create a fresh one.

The coalition’s application, dated June 19, was acknowledged by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday, confirming their choice of a new political vehicle.

A letter signed by Chief Akin A. Rickets (Protem National Chairman) and Abdullahi Elayo (Protem National Secretary), officially confirmed the formation of the All Democratic Alliance, which will operate under the slogan “Justice for All.”

“We respectfully write to the Independent National Electoral Commission, requesting the registration of our association, the All Democratic Alliance, as a political party,” the letter stated.

Meanwhile, INEC has acknowledged the request, stating that party formation goes beyond declarations or alliances, insisting on adherence to the 1999 Constitution and Electoral Act.
