Benue Crisis: Tinubu Appoints Akume to Lead Resolution Committee

President Bola Tinubu has directed the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume to coordinate a committee aimed at resolving the ongoing crisis in Benue State.

Persecondnews reports that the committee will comprise former governors of the state, the Tor Tiv, the Och’Idoma, and other key stakeholders.

According to a statement by the Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the SGF, Mr. Segun Imohiosen on Thursday, the committee will meet with President Tinubu in Abuja to develop a workable plan to end the killings.

Akume expressed his commitment to working with all stakeholders to bring lasting peace to the state, saying, “Achieving sustainable peace requires a united effort.”

The SGF commended President Tinubu for his courageous initiative to witness firsthand the incessant conflicts faced by Benue State and to reaffirm the government’s dedication to resolving the ongoing conflicts.

Akume assured the president of his unwavering commitment to adhere to the tenets of his directive, working hand-in-hand with all stakeholders to develop and implement comprehensive strategies that address root causes, promote reconciliation, and foster long-term peace and stability in the state.

Persecondnews reported that during his Wednesday visit to the state, Tinubu engaged with key stakeholders at a town-hall meeting, where crucial matters towards nipping the lingering killings in the bud were discussed.

The committee is tasked with finding a lasting solution to the killings in the state in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
