Presidency corrects errors in Democracy Day honours list

The Presidency has corrected an error in the list of national honours announced by President Bola Tinubu during his Democracy Day address.

During his speech to a joint session of the National Assembly, President Tinubu recognized several prominent pro-democracy figures for their significant contributions to restoring and strengthening democratic governance in Nigeria.

However, the Posthumous Award category mistakenly included the names of Pa Reuben Fasoranti, the esteemed elder statesman and leader of Afenifere, and Dr. Edwin Madunagu, a respected journalist and activist.

Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, issued a statement clarifying that both individuals are alive and well and should not have been listed among posthumous honorees.

“The Presidency regrets this oversight and has taken immediate steps to correct the error across all official records and digital platforms,” Onanuga said.

“We extend our sincere apologies to Pa Fasoranti, Dr. Madunagu, their families, and all concerned Nigerians for this unintended misclassification.”
