Trent Alexander-Arnold, the talented England full-back, has officially joined Real Madrid, marking a new chapter in his illustrious career.
The 26-year-old was unveiled as a Real player earlier this month, leaving behind his former club, Liverpool.
Alexander-Arnold expressed his excitement about working with new manager Xabi Alonso, saying, “I’ve spoken to Xabi a few times. I told him he was an idol of mine growing up, so to work with him is a dream come true.
“I’m very excited to be here. Whether you support the club or not, you have to respect the history.” Alonso, who helped Liverpool win the Champions League in 2005, will undoubtedly bring valuable insights to the young player.
In a surprising move, Alexander-Arnold’s Real Madrid jersey will feature the name “Trent” instead of his full surname.
Explaining the decision, he said: “People call me Alexander, Arnold, Alex, and Trent. There’s a lot going on. So I thought let’s make it easy.”
This change is expected to simplify his branding and make him more recognizable to fans.
The number 12 jersey, which Alexander-Arnold will wear, holds significant history at Real Madrid.
Previously worn by France midfielder Eduardo Camavinga and Brazilian left-back Marcelo, who won 25 major trophies, the number comes with a sense of responsibility.
Alexander-Arnold acknowledged this, stating, “I’m ready for the big responsibility” of joining Real Madrid.
