In just 35 days, Nigeria will host the 3rd edition of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) African Junior Athletics Championship.

The event is scheduled to take place from July 16 to 20, 2025, at the recently refurbished MKO Abiola International Stadium in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Persecondnews reports that the championship is expected to attract over 500 young athletes from more than 50 African nations, making it a premier platform for showcasing emerging talent on the continent.

The event promises to be an exciting celebration of African athletics, with talented youngsters set to compete in various events.

A statement released on Monday by the Special Assistant on Media Office of the Director General National Sports Commission Mr. Kola Daniel, said the championship is widely regarded as a breeding ground for future Olympic and world champions.

Reigning overall champions, South Africa, will aim to defend their title, but Nigeria’s young stars are eager to make a strong statement on home soil.

The event promises to be an exciting celebration of Africa’s future in track and field, showcasing the continent’s most promising Under-18 and Under-20 athletes.

“Abeokuta, also known as the Gateway City, is set to deliver an unforgettable experience for athletes, officials, and fans alike. The city’s state-of-the-art facilities and strategic location make it an ideal host,” the statement reads.

Persecondnews also reports that the National Sports Commission and Athletics Federation of Nigeria have expressed confidence in Abeokuta’s ability to stage a successful event, with over 800 rooms across multiple facilities earmarked to host participants.

As the countdown continues, all eyes will be on Nigeria to rise to the occasion and reinforce its status as Africa’s true sporting giant.

The CAA African Junior Championships have previously been hosted by other countries, but Nigeria is determined to make a lasting impression this time around.
