A 43-year-old man, identified only as Kazeem, from the Edun area of Ilorin, Kwara State capital, tragically died on Friday after jumping into a domestic well.

The incident is believed to have occurred shortly after Kazeem returned from Eid prayers, and he was reportedly under the influence of a hard substance known as ‘Colo’ (Colorado).

The Kwara State Fire Service confirmed the recovery of Kazeem’s lifeless body from the well.

According to Hassan Adekunle, the spokesman for the State Fire Service, a distress call was received at about 10:29 am on Friday, reporting that a man had jumped into a well at Alapo compound, Edun, Ilorin.

Firefighters were immediately dispatched to the scene and successfully recovered the body.

The victim, Kazeem, was found to have jumped into the well while under the influence of the illicit substance.

The body has since been handed over to Inspector Babatunde Amos of the ‘C’ Division Police Station, Ilorin, pending formal identification and claim by the victim’s family.

In response to the tragic event, Falade Olumuyiwa, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, issued a strong caution to residents of the state against drug abuse, emphasizing that such actions frequently lead to devastating consequences.
