President Bola Tinubu has sworn in two newly appointed commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and two members of the Board of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) at the State House in Abuja.

The swearing-in ceremony took place before the commencement of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, which President Tinubu presided over on Monday.

The newly sworn-in INEC commissioners are Mallam Tukur Abdulrazaq Yusuf, representing the North-west, and Prof. Sunday Nwambam Aja, representing Ebonyi State.

The two new members of the CCB board are Mr. Ikpeme Kenneth Ndem from Cross River State and retired Justice Buba Ibrahim Nyaure from Taraba State.

Speaking after the event, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, INEC chairman, described the appointments as a crucial step toward restoring the commission’s full operational capacity.

“With these appointments, we now have almost the full complement of commissioners,” he said.

Yakubu said the commission’s ongoing collaboration with the National Assembly on electoral reforms, aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.

“We are actively working with the National Assembly on electoral reforms that will improve the electoral process and deepen democracy in Nigeria,” he said.

Yakubu also dismissed rumors of his removal from office, calling such speculation “unnecessary.”

“I remain the Chairman of INEC in accordance with the Constitution and the Electoral Act. Any speculation about my removal is unfounded,” he asserted.
