Borno Gov. Zulum Orders Petrol Sales Halt in Border Towns Amid Insurgency Threat
As part of a renewed strategy to combat the ongoing insurgency, the Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, has announced an immediate prohibition on the sale of petrol within Bama Local Government Area.
This encompasses both Bama town and the strategically important border community of Banki.
This directive is a result of consultations held with security agencies and is specifically designed to disrupt the supply lines utilized by Boko Haram militants operating within the region.
The governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Malam Dauda Iliya, disseminated this information through an official statement issued on Saturday in Maiduguri.
“I have directed the immediate ban on the sale of petrol in Bama town, Banki, and other parts of Bama Local Government Area with immediate effect,”  Zulum said.
He emphasized that the ban would be strictly enforced, warning against any attempts to flout the order.
“Let me make it clear, there will be no sacred cows in the enforcement of this ban.
“Security agencies have been given strict orders to clamp down on any filling station or individual contravening this directive. Anyone found culpable will be dealt with accordingly,” the  governor stated.
The governor’s latest move comes amid escalating security situation in the state.
Persecondnews recalls that in April, Zulum had raised alarm over a resurgence of Boko Haram attacks with the insurgents overrunning some military formations in the state.
