Mr. Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has made a stunning revelation about the recent state of emergency in Rivers State.

According to Wike, he had been pushing for the removal of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, but President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency on March 18 ultimately intervened, sparing Fubara’s tenure.

This development has sparked intense reactions, with many questioning the motivations behind Wike’s alleged actions.

Persecondnews reported that the Supreme Court, in its February 18 judgment, ordered the Martins Amaewhule-led faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly and other elected members to resume legislative duties immediately without hindrance.

The court imposed a N5 million fine on Gov. Fubara, accusing him of sabotaging the legislative arm of government, allegedly driven by fears of impeachment.

Subsequently, after resuming, the lawmakers initiated an impeachment process against the governor.

However, before it progressed, the President suspended both the governor and the elected lawmakers for an initial period of six months and appointed retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as Sole Administrator to oversee the state’s affairs.

In a media chat in Abuja on Friday, monitored by Persecondnews, Wike said that although he was displeased with the state of emergency declared in Rivers, the decision ultimately saved Fubara from being ousted.

He said: “As a politician, I am not happy about the state of emergency in Rivers State. I wanted the outright removal of Governor Fubara. The president, by declaring a state of emergency, saved Fubara.

“The governor was gone. He was gone, yes… so when people say the president did this, I say they should be praising him.

“Every morning, they should go to the president and ask, ‘Can we wash your feet for saving us?.”

Wike, a key figure in the state’s political crisis, expressed readiness for peace talks but claimed Fubara’s advisers had advised him against embracing peace.
