Updated: Defamation Case: Portable Sent to Prison for Not Meeting Bail Terms

704

For failure to meet the stringent bail conditions imposed on him by an Ilorin Upper Area Court in Kwara State, Controversial singer, Okikiola Badmus, aka Portable, has been remanded in a Correctional Centre in Ilorin.

Persecondnews reported that the singer appeared in court on Monday to answer to the charges of defamation of character levelled against him by veteran Fuji musician, Okunola Saheed, aka Saheed Osupa.

Portable was, however, granted bail in the sum of N1 million with other stringent conditions, including two sureties required to provide a similar amount.

According to the court’s ruling, one of the sureties must be the Chairman or Secretary of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), while the other must be a property owner within a Government Reservation Area (GRA) in Ilorin with a valid Certificate of Occupancy.

Persecondnews reports that the case was documented under First Information Report (FIR) 117(1) CPC, and filed by the State Intelligence Department of the police following a petition dated March 21, 2025, by Osupa.

The petition claimed that Portable used his Instagram platform to allegedly defame Osupa, stating without basis that Osupa was envious of him and was working to undermine his reputation.

Portable was quoted in the video as saying, “This man dey try bring down my shine! He be like person wey dey chop snail with shell—him no get sense. Osupa carry tortoise for stomach.

“When Apple Music and Spotify want to drop money for me, na him remove my song from the platform, make I no see money (sic).”

Osupa claimed that Portable’s comments were not just defamatory and damaging to his reputation but also aimed at stirring up public animosity and disrupting societal peace.

Portable is no stranger to controversy.

Persecondnews had reported that he was charged with assault at an Abeokuta Magistrate’s Court and was granted bail in the sum of N2 million on February 20, 2025.

He was arrested on February 19, 2025, for attacking officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development while carrying out their duties at his Odogwu Bar in Sango-Ota area of the state.

The charges included conspiracy, assault, restriction, being armed with cutlasses and guns, and conduct likely to cause harm and cause a breach of public peace.
