The intense competition at the Africa Women’s Volleyball Championship has not stopped visiting teams from discovering a new culinary delight in Nigerian cuisine.

In an exclusive interview with Persecondnews, Kenyan Prisons Volleyball Club Coach, Josp Barasa, gushed about his love for the traditional Nigerian dish, “Fufu”.

Barasa also commended the championship’s organization, giving it an excellent rating.

His glowing endorsement highlights the warm hospitality and rich cultural heritage that Nigeria has extended to the visiting teams, making their experience truly unforgettable.

Fufu, a staple food in Nigeria and West Africa, as won the heart of Barasa. The traditional dish, made from pounded cassava or yam, is often eaten with various soups and stews.

Barasa, who tried some Nigerian meals, confessed that Fufu is his favourite. “The organisation of this competition is good; over 10, I will score them eight.

“The logistics of teams have been seamless, and also, I have tried some couple of Nigerian meals, but Fufu is the best,” he said.

Despite his admiration for Nigerian cuisine, Barasa was visibly unhappy after his team’s defeat to Zamalek at the Hall B of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

The Kenyan team lost 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-23) to the Egyptian side.

Barasa assured that his team will learn from their mistakes and get better.

“We were not good in the first set and second set; we controlled the game at a point and we led by 21-17, but we still lost that set. We lacked concentration throughout the game, and our attack was blunt.”

He acknowledged that the loss was an inevitable part of the competition and emphasized the need for his team to maintain their focus, with the goal of winning their next match to regain momentum.
