The National Sports Commission (NSC) has given its full backing to the Niger Delta Sports Festival (NDSF), recognizing the event’s potential to discover and nurture emerging sporting talents.

NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko will officially declare the festival open, noting the Commission’s commitment to promoting grassroots sports development across the country.

A statement by Kola Daniel, Special Assistant, Media Office of the Director General of NSC, Bukola Olopade, given to Persecondnews on Sunday, applauded the initiative, saying, “the Niger Delta Sports Festival represents a vital platform for discovering and nurturing raw talent.”

Olopade urged other states to adopt similar programmes to expand Nigeria’s talent pool and strengthen its sporting future.

“We encourage more states to adopt similar initiatives to expand the talent pool and strengthen Nigeria’s sporting future,” he said.

The festival has received a significant boost with the unveiling of PremiumTrust Bank as its official bank.

The event, scheduled to take place from April 1 to April 8 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, will bring together athletes from across the region to compete in various sporting disciplines.

The Niger Delta Sports Festival aims to showcase budding talents, foster regional unity, and promote youth engagement in sports.

With over 15,000 entries already received, the festival is generating significant interest among athletes and sports enthusiasts.

The event will feature athletics, football, volleyball, handball, and basketball, among other sports.
