The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, has inaugurated 50 new commissioners to strengthen Nigeria’s tax dispute resolution system.

At the swearing-in ceremony on Saturday, Edun said the appointments reflect the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring fiscal justice and enhancing the tax dispute resolution system.

“These appointments demonstrate our dedication to creating a fair and transparent tax system,” Edun said.

Edun tasked the new commissioners to prioritize equity and dedication in their roles, urging them to work tirelessly to resolve tax-related disputes.

“I charge you to be fair, just, and dedicated in your duties. Your role is critical in ensuring that our tax system is fair and equitable,” he added.

Reacting to his appointment, Okide Ezigbo, the newly appointed Commissioner of the Tax Appeal Tribunal, promised to be transparent and accountable.

“I am committed to service delivery and ensuring that our tax system is fair and just. I will work tirelessly to resolve tax-related disputes and promote fiscal justice,” Ezigbo said.

With over 22 years of experience as a legal professional, Ezigbo is well-equipped to handle the demands of his new role.

The Tax Appeal Tribunal, established under Section 59 of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (Establishment) Act, plays a crucial role in adjudicating tax-related disputes in Nigeria.

The inauguration of the new commissioners is expected to enhance the tribunal’s effectiveness in resolving tax disputes and promoting fiscal justice.
