3 Lagos Assembly staff get N9 bail over alleged assault of DSS operatives, adjourns until March 24th

Reprieve came on Wednesday for three staff members of the Lagos State House of Assembly, who were charged with assaulting and obstructing Department of State Security Services (DSS) officers in performing their official duties.

Justice Daniel Osiagor of the Federal High Court in Lagos granted the trio bail, of N3 million each with a surety of not less than level 16 in the civil service.

The DSS, however, did not contest the bail application.

Persecondnews reports that the defendants were represented by a lawyer from the chambers of Mr. Femi Falana (SAN).

According to the DSS charge sheet (FHC/L/273C/2026) filed on February 26, 2025, the defendants – Ibrahim Olanrewaju (Male), Adetu Adekunle (Male), and Fatimoh Adetola (Female) – along with others still at large, allegedly recorded and circulated false information online to incite unrest and embarrass the DSS.

The defendants also allegedly used mobile devices (iPhone 12 Pro Max and Tecno POP 8) to spread misleading content aimed at disrupting public order.

The offences violated Section 516 of the Criminal Code Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (2004); Sections 27(1)(b), 24(1)(b), 24(c)(i), and 11 of the Cybercrimes Act (2015, amended in 2024).

The arrests were made after a confrontation broke out between DSS operatives and Lagos Assembly staff on February 17, during an operation at the Assembly over speakership tussle.

Persecondnews had reported that some staff members of the Assembly, who were trying to gain access into the chamber on Monday, February 17, had physical altercation with DSS operatives, who claimed they were invited to maintain law and order.

The court adjourned until March 24 for commencement of trial.
