The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Princess Mojisola Meranda, has denied stepping down as being speculated in some quarters.

“I have not resigned and there is no plan for that,” she said, affirming her stoic response following failed attempt on Monday to force her to step down amid rumoured forced takeover by the ousted Speaker Mudashiru Obada.

Meranda maintained that she remains the Speaker of the House, adding that she is presently in her office doing her job.

Meranda, who spoke through her Chief Press Secretary, Segun Ajiboye, said: “I’m in the office. The speaker is in the office. I don’t know where that is coming from.

“It is a lie from the pit of hell. There is no truth in the story. I am doing my work as the CPS, the Speaker is her office as we speak and everybody is talking about his or her business.

“We do not know where the story is coming from. The Speaker has not resigned and there is no plan for that.”

Persecondnews recalls a circular dated February 17, 2025, allegedly released by Meranda has also been trending for two days, claiming she had resigned.

Check shows that the letter circulating on social media was unsigned.

The Assembly has been embroiled in crisis since Mudashiru was removed by 36 lawmakers of the 40-member House.
