Microsoft Invests $1m in Nigeria’s AI Ecosystem, Targets 1 Million Nigerians for Training

In a significant boost to Nigeria’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) ecosystem, tech giant, Microsoft, has announced a $1 million (approximately ₦1.6 billion) investment in the country over the next two years.

The investment aims to equip one million Nigerians with AI skills, positioning the country as a key player in the global AI ecosystem.

Ms Ola Williams, Microsoft’s Country Manager for Nigeria and Ghana, announced this during the launch of the Microsoft AI tour in Lagos.

“This is a strategic investment to ensure that Nigerians have access to the critical skills needed not just to use AI, but to develop cutting-edge solutions and build AI-driven businesses that provide sustainable livelihoods,” Williams said.

According to Williams, the initiative is designed to empower individuals with the expertise to harness AI for innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic competitiveness.

“This is a significant investment in our drive to ensure that everyone has access to the right skills required not just to use AI but to build solutions on AI, build businesses on AI that will be a sustainable means of livelihood for Nigerians and give Nigerian youths the opportunity to compete globally with their counterparts,” she added.

The Microsoft AI tour, which kicked off in Lagos, aims to discuss the future potential of AI and its opportunities across various sectors.

The investment is expected to have a significant impact on Nigeria’s AI ecosystem, providing a platform for individuals to develop cutting-edge solutions and build AI-driven businesses.
